The Crescent City Downtown Divas, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, operate the Downtown Crescent City Farmers Market. The market accepts Cal-Fresh, also known as EBT or food stamps, and federally known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). And due to the generous grant from the Del Norte Heath Care District, we were able to offer Market Match, as an additional benefit to our community.
Market Match is an incentive program that encourages those enrolled in the CalFresh food assistance program to improve their diets by eating more fruits and vegetables.
Market Match helps families with CalFresh stretch their food dollars and afford more healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables. The program offers farmers’ market customers a dollar-for-dollar match when they use their CalFresh cards at selected farmers’ markets.
Market Match has proven results; helping families to eat better and farmers to sustain their operations. This is a long term health benefit of low income populations.
